For about the last year I have been asking the Lord to heal me…from my past. He heard and He has acted. It did not happen in the way I would have expected.. basically He stopped me in my tracks and isolated me so He could do something deep in my heart. It has been scary and painful. He dug into the deepest roots of my childhood and brought the repressed feelings to the surface. I never knew they were there. It felt like an earthquake inside my body.
God is always waiting for the opportunity to do a healing work in us. Many of us are way too busy to even ask..many of us don’t really want to be healed. He is not an intruder..He never barges in where He is not wanted. He waits and when we are ready to receive.. He moves. He goes to the deepest wound and sticks a knife in it..the dam bursts and before you know it, you are flooded with memories..crying your eyes out. It is a sovereign work of the Holy Spirit. Not for the faint hearted.
I share this with you so you will understand the heart of our God. He wants to change us..to make us over in His image. To release us..removing the garbage that we carry around with us day-to-day. He is after us with a vengeance.. He is not timid.. He is wild. He is unpredictable and He is not safe.. but He is good. He requires a heart that is fully dedicated to Him.. He won’t settle for anything less.
Jesus quoted the beginning of this scripture in the book of Luke..
” The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. “
No.. I’m not talking about a misplaced object..I’m talking about something that God might be doing. In every season of our lives God is doing things..both in us and around us. One of those things that He is continually doing is healing. He loves to bring healing to His people. For some reason we fail to realize this..causing ourselves to suffer more than we need to. We find ourselves in difficult circumstances and we react to our situation with strong emotions. Often these emotions are over-reactions.. we wonder how we will ever live through this season in our lives.
God is doing something in the midst of this pain. He is showing us that we are not only reacting to the present but also to the past. He is unearthing something that He wants to remove..old pain that sits below the surface of our lives..keeping us from living fully. It is our responsiblity to pray and ask Him for healing.. remember He never forces Himself on anyone. He is the one who can make us whole..removing the knives that are stuck in our hearts…healing the deep wounds.
He takes pleasure in this process because He knows we will be more free..more joyful..more able to live the abundant life. He pursues us..waiting for us to ask Him to reveal what He is doing. I’m sure He grieves as we experience the deep pain that will eventually cause us to cry out to Him. He is patient..never anxious and unrelenting in His love for us. His plan for us includes inner healing.. healing of emotions..healing of our broken hearts. If we seek this..desire it and pray for it.. God will do it.
Looking beneath the surface our lives is a habit we can develop..we can teach ourselves to seek His purposes in every situation.. to realize that He has a reason for everything and nothing is wasted. He will lead us to people, books, movies etc.. all designed to help us understand our journey and bring us into greater freedom.
Remember..He loves you and He wants to bring you out of the darkness into His wonderful light!
“Everyone tried to touch him, because healing power went out from him, and he healed everyone.”
