I’ve learned more in my life while in the waiting room than any other time. I know..you don’t want to hear that..neither do I, but it is true. No one likes to talk about waiting in our culture..or in the church. It is almost like the word “wait”is a four letter word. We love to get things done quickly and move fast. The internet has definitely made us people who can run to the computer and google just about anything. Instant access to all the information we would ever need. Amazing!
Yet..we still have to wait. Google cannot predict our future. The internet can’t tell us how to survive a dry season. Facebook doesn’t solve our relational problems..in fact it may create new ones. We still have to wait and wonder when things will change. Our lives are in the hands of our Creator and He often tells us to wait.
I have been contemplating this waiting stuff for years now..trying to understand the value in it and wondering why it is so necessary. Gradually there have been insights into the process and they have helped me to wait without getting depressed or discouraged. One of the most important is realizing that God is working while we are waiting..it seems like He is not doing anything, but in truth He is preparing us for the day when the waiting is over. The other insight that helps is to realize that we choose how we wait. Either we are waiting “in faith” or we are doubting the goodness of our God. The choice must be made over and over again as we walk by faith not by sight.
So.. here I sit in the waiting room and looking across the room..I see you..waiting with me. Let’s pray…
Lord, we trust you with this situation and we believe that you are working on our behalf even now. We are choosing to trust you with our lives and the lives of our loved ones. We are agreeing to choose faith and not doubt and we look forward to the day when the waiting is over.. Amen
