The Furnace

Do you remember the story in Daniel..the one about the three men in the furnace. They were in there because they refused to bow down to the gold statue King Nebuchadnezzar created. Three Jews..Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into the furnace. but not before we hear them say “Nebuchadnezzar we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, The God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power,Your majesty. But even if He doesn’t we want to make it clear to you, Your majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

That story is incredible..Even if He doesn’t save us! Wow. What a statement of faith that is. They believed that God would rescue them and at the same time they stated that no matter what happened they would stay on His side..no worshiping gold statues.. not under any circumstances. The King went crazy..made the furnace 7 times hotter than usual and threw them in. Suddenly the three were walking around in the flames unharmed and there is a fourth person with them.

They were not alone in that furnace. The same God that rescued them and delivered them and brought them out without a hair on their head being singed..even their clothing was perfect and they did not smell of smoke… is the God who is with us. They were delivered from that fiery furnace before the flames could consume them. Their lives became a living testimony to the God who rescues, saves, delivers, protects, and never fails. They stayed on His side and He stayed with them.

” There is no other god who can rescue like this!”

  2. Hi Alicia,
What a wonderful blog this is, and a great reminder that no matter what it looks like, God is God. ‘Whether we live or whether we die, our God reigns & we will worship no other.’ What an amazing illustration that God has given for us to see and know that through Him all things are possilbe, even faith like they had!
    Blessings, Sarah
