The Battle is the Lord’s

Yes..there is a battle..we live in the middle of a war zone. A battle for our hearts and for the direction of our lives. How do we imagine this battle that takes place in the unseen world. Do we picture the forces of good and evil coming against each other? Do we think that our enemies can overcome us? Are we afraid of evil having power in our lives or in the lives of those we love? Our imaginations can run wild and bring all sorts of images into our heads.. some of these may encourage us to be fearful and intimidated.

God’s sovereignty tells us something else. The final battle was won over 2000 years ago. The end of the story has been written.. and we know the ending. Good overcomes evil..good has always overcome evil. God is good and He is the creator of everything..yes everything. His power extends to the ends of the earth..to the ends of the universe and beyond. We serve a God who is larger than anything we can imagine with our finite minds.

That being said..we do not need to be afraid. Over and over again God says ” Do not fear.” He gives us reassurance..with words that were written so we would realize that we are not alone. Words that were written to tell us of His great love for us. Words that show us that He is the one in control. Words that promise protection, provision, and comfort. We have no reason to look around at the evil that surrounds us..unless we want to scare ourselves. We have every reason to look at Him.

“This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
