Contentment

An amazing word. I like this definition “True contentment is a thing as active as agriculture. It is the power of getting out of any situation all that there is in it. It is arduous and it is rare.” (by GK Chesterton) I do believe that it is rare.. how easy is it to miss the present and all its beauty because we are waiting for the next thing. The road ahead promises to be better than this place where we are today. Yet.. is that true? Not really. There will be challenges all the way through. There will be struggles along the way.. disappointments and more waiting. So the key is to learn to enjoy the present.. to find contentment in all circumstances..

I want to qualify all this by saying that there are seasons that are extremely exhausting and difficult in our lives.. it is more work to find contentment in those times. Yet it must be possible. In every season we can be thankful and realize that we have the gift of life. In difficult times we can rely on God and cry out to Him when our hearts are hurting. He will give us His peace and there will always be moments of joy in the midst of the struggle.

Contentment is learning to accept where we are.. but it  does not rule out a better season ahead. Making peace with the present while longing for the future.. it is tricky but not impossible.  God is always teaching us things and stretching us.. no season of pain and suffering is wasted unless we spend the whole time trying to escape. He will release us in His time.. Let’s pray to learn all that He has for us so we can move forward..

“With God all things are possible”

Sit and rest with Him!
