Rest for the Weary

He promises us rest. On the seventh day God rested. He repeatedly talks about rest in the Bible. Resting in Him.. resting with Him.. giving us rest…promising rest..He mentions rest from our enemies.. rest must be important to God. So it needs to be important to us. I find resting difficult so I thought I would look up the definition of rest to see if that would help.

1. Cessation of work, exertion, or activity.2. Peace, ease, or refreshment resulting from sleep or the cessation of an activity.3. Sleep or quiet relaxation.4. The repose of death: eternal rest.5. Relief or freedom from disquiet or disturbance.6. Mental or emotional tranquillity.7. Termination or absence of motion.

These are some definitions of “rest” from an online dictionary. I like the word tranquility.. emotional tranquility.Wow! I love the  sound of that.. He gives us that? Yes I believe He does .. when He promises us rest He means just that.. freedom from anxiety and worry.. peace and tranquility.

Our part is to ask for and to discover this rest that is found in Him.. Rest in the middle of trials.. rest that brings refreshment to our souls.. rest that breathes new life into us.. Rest for the weary.

“Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders.”

" It is well.. it is well.. with my soul."
