Why do we need to go back?

Because there are answers there. The past holds the keys to the present. We often try so hard to move ahead.. to forget.. to repress.. to bury..to justify..to cover over. As believers we may be ashamed of feelings that are negative. Christians are good at putting on happy faces.. Fortunately God does not want that. He is eager for us to unlock the doors of our hearts where there are memories that need to be brought into the open. He is waiting to be invited into our struggles.

The idea that we are perfect once we enter into a relationship with God is not biblical. Paul writes about his struggles and other people’s struggles repeatedly in the Epistles. Jesus says ” in this world you will have trouble.” That does not refer only to problems with the culture.. He means it is difficult here.. we are living in a fallen world. Things are not as they should be. We have an enemy. Our hearts are the battleground. God wants our hearts to be prepared for Him.. that means we need healing and restoration. We needs to be able to talk about what has happened to us.. to be heard.. to be understood.. to be truly who we are with at least one person.

Women especially need to be listened to and understood.. by other women. We can empathize with one another.. we can give to each other. Of course competition and insecurities can keep this from happening.. but God’s plan is that we are there for each other on the deepest level possible. He wants our hearts to connect with Him and with each other. He has designed us to need this and to be able to give this.

If you don’t have a safe place to be truly you.. pray and ask God to give you that person or maybe those people who can help you care for your heart.. that person who journey with you into your past and help you understand what has happened to you.. He will provide that for you.
